Mission

By 2050 2/3 of the people on our precious planet will be living in cities. Our mission at Urban Permie is to share how to best care for ourselves and mother earth using ancient and modern practices that will create greener, cleaner and community minded members on our shared planet.

WHAT WE DO

Whether at home, school or work, living in the city can often be stressful and can wear on our health. Urban Permie provides nature based solutions in the form of services, resources and experiences to facilitate our communities to live more balanced and healthy lives. Our work is inspired by the ethics of permaculture, care of the planet, care of people and sharing the surplus as well as the philosophy of Ubuntu "I am because we are". We're all needed to contribute to the healing of our planet and it's citizens, we're here to do our small part in helping us reach that goal.

meet Cheryl Browne

I've come to realize that my grandmother's influence and growing up in Vancouver, BC, minutes from one of the world's most beautiful Urban parks has had a profound impact on who I am as an adult. Spending time in nature and learning how plants can bring innumerable benefits to our lives has been the main focus of how my husband and I have raised our family in New York City. To further deepen my love of nature I became certified in Permaculture at The Center for BioRegional Living, have taken permiculture teacher training, and have taken extensive courses at the New York City Farm School, and Brooklyn Botanic Garden. With over 25 years experience growing edible gardens and practing natural living, I've created Urban Permie to share my knowledge and experience so that more people in our communities can feel empowered to be active in their personal and community wellbeing. There are so many creative and simple ways to grow long lasting and real abundance while living in an urban environment. I am here to share what I know to help you make that happen!

earth care, people care, fair share.

Our processes are based on the universal 12 principles of Permaculture. These principles are based on the three ethics of Earth Care, People Care and Fair Share. Permaculture ethics are distilled from research into community ethics, learning from cultures that have existed in relative balance with their environment for much longer than more recent civilisations. This does not mean that we should ignore the great teachings of modern times, but in the transition to a sustainable future, we need to consider values and concepts outside the current social norm.
